About Hitachi Power Africa


Hitachi Power Africa (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of the German-based Hitachi Power Europe GmbH,  was established in late 2005 and is owned by:

  • Hitachi Power Europe GmbH                                 70%
  • Chancellor House Holdings Pty. Ltd.                    25%
  • Makotulo Investments and Services (Pty) Ltd        5%

Within the worldwide Hitachi Group, Hitachi Power Africa manages local content of power plant orders comprising the manufacturing, supply, construction and commissioning of fossil fuel-fired power plants as well as steam and gas turbines in the Southern African region. The company also supplies key components such as air quality control systems, regenerative steam airheaters, coal mills and feeders, sootblowers, fans, deashers as well as high and low pressure pipework.

Hitachi Power Africa is currently executing the local content for two power plant orders from the South African utility Eskom.  The projects comprise 6 x 800 MW Utility Steam Generators for each of the Medupi and Kusile Power Stations in Lephalale, Limpopo Province and Emalahleni, Mpumalanga Province respectively.

In addition, the company is facilitating the transfer of technology, skills and investment into South Africa.
